Supermarkets - local

Albert Heijn is the largest supermarket chain in the country and is equivalent to an American style Safeway or UK Tesco. Stores vary in size, from large stores where you can check out your groceries as you go (XL on the map) to small mini-markets, located in train and metro stations. One advantage of Albert Heijn is that you can set up an account at www.albert.nl to order your groceries on-line and arrange a time for it to be delivered to your home (the only disadvantage is that the site is not in English)

In terms of selection you can find pretty much everything you need at the larger Albert Heijns. The quality is good and they are a price competitive with other supermarket chains.

Gall & Gall is a national chain of liquor stores. Here you will find everything you are looking for from a bottle of wine to a nice bottle of whiskey. You could also try out some of the Dutch gin or jenever….not to be mixed with tonic but very nice!
